About Me
Professor Dimitris Drikakis
Vice President for Global Partnerships Executive Director of Research and Innovation Joint Professor’s appointment Sciences & Engineering and Medical School at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus
I am a university professor dealing with engineering, applied physics and computational science. I was born and raised in Athens, Greece, and after I completed my university studies, I immigrated abroad. I lived most of my working life in the United Kingdom with spells of my career in Germany and, more recently, in Cyprus, where I reside permanently.
I have educated and mentored several international students at an undergraduate and postgraduate level for 3 decades. In addition, I have mentored and supervised several researchers, academics and administrators. I have researched in multidisciplinary fields of engineering science, applied mathematics and physics, published extensively in journals and received recognition through awards and media coverage.
I am proud of having the opportunity to work closely with practitioners across industry sectors (engineering, medical, energy, environment, and defence). This allowed me to understand the challenges associated with transferring research to practice and enabled me to contribute to and impact some crucial problems.
Through my executive management roles for over 16 years, I developed a holistic approach to governing an organisation. I dealt with numerous human resource and management issues, financial planning, the business and the commercial world.
I believe in change and continuously evolve professionally and personally. I also believe in simplicity. The biggest nemesis of our lives is the complexity we created and live in.
